Scrap Car Buyers recovery section nearly lost a driver this morning due to some very poor driving. Whilst securing a Ford Galaxy on one of our recovery trucks the driver was on the road side fitting straps, he was in full hi visibility clothing, the conditions were clear, sunny and his flashing beacons were lit. Traffic was heavy yet the road was straight and the Scrap Car Buyers truck was visible for at least 500 metres on a dual carriageway with traffic lights just a couple of hundred metres before it.
The driver of a car decided that rather than filter in to the outside lane it was much better to squeeze between the recovery truck and a passing 38 ton articulated lorry in the outside lane. With nowhere to go and no time to escape the Scrap Car Buyers recovery driver squuezed in as close to the recovery truck as possible, closed his eyes and expected the worst!
Seconds later the cars mirror cracked the Scrap Car Buyers recovery driver on the posterior and carried on regardless without stopping. This was such a close shave and a few millimetres closer we would have been organising a funeral because the Scrap Car Buyers driver would have been killed.
When driving and approaching any obstacle on the roadside all drivers should take extra care and consider the implications of their reckless actions. Recovery drivers should always be aware that this can happen and should at all times try to find the safest way to operate in on each occassion. Life is more valuable than time.
